halloween

Halloween festivities are ALWAYS a blast.  Every year around May we start trying to decide on our Halloween costumes (this Mommas GOT to plan).  Boston was settled on being Peter Pan in August.  Since Hudson doesn't have TOO much of a say, he was picked to be Captain Hook and let me tell you, he LOVED the idea.
The idea almost came to a halt, when the lady making my costume on Etsy almost didn't pull through.  Luckily, the costume arrived and I didn't have to go with a last minute backup plan.
Captain Hook vs Peter Pan it was.
We had our ward Trunk or Treat the Friday before Halloween.  Since the YW were in charge, I didn't get a chance to get very many pictures.  Plus the boys (aka Hudson) cared less about cooperating.
We panicked because it was 100% chance of rain on Halloween.  And did it RAIN that day.  Miraculously by 2 or so the rain cleared out and we were good to go for trick or treating.
HALLELUJAH!!
I don't know how those boys would have taken a rained out Halloween!
We put on our costumes to prep for the night.
These boys were TOTALLY in character mode.
We went to our friends the Buchanan's house for dinner
 Crafting
 And then trick or treating
It is VERY difficult to get a picture with kids who were VERY anxious to get some candy.
We had a Red Ninja, Captain Hook, a fairy, Tinkerbell, Ariel, Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo (all Ninja Turtles), Peter Pan, and King Kong.
Hudson was SO excited about getting his candy.  At one point, he asked Kent to carry him.  We were only about half way done and Kent told him he wasn't going to carry him the whole time.  So he said if he wanted to trick or treat to more houses, he could walk OR go back home.  In 2 seconds that boy was down and running for more candy.
These boys are BFF's and stick together.
After pigging out on candy and being COMPLETELY worn out, we headed home to try to come down off our sugar high and go to sleep.
The boys passed out with a quickness while Kent and I watched "HALLOWEEN" on TV.
Surprisingly (or not) Kent fell asleep half way through and left me sitting in the dark, freaked out by myself!!
I love me a good scary movie!!!!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

spooky dinner

We had our annual spooky dinner this year again.
This is one of the boys FAVORITE things to do before Halloween.
I must say, I'm not overly proud of this year's dinner.  Things were a little busy for me around this time, so this dinner was quickly planned and quickly made.
But hey, we did it.
The pictures I took weren't that great either.  I guess there's always next year.  The boys don't notice that stuff so I guess all that matters is that they have fun! Right....?
For dinner we did the usual brains and eyeballs (this year, I really wanted to change it up but again, I didn't have the time).
We ate teeth....Kent makes fun of me for this every year for some reason.
 Pumpkin vomit
And bones (again...don't mind how SLOPPILY done those bones are) for dinner.
And for dessert we ate dirt and worms
This picture is priceless.
Although it looks like he is gagging, he's not at this exact moment.  That was the NEXT worm he sipped up like that and ended up choking.  Kent performed the heimlich on him and he vomitted that sucker right out.
Talk about a scary moment.

adventures with hudson

Sometimes I feel SUPER guilty that Hudson is stuck being my errand buddy while Boston is at school all day.  I feel like I have SO much to get done and I get caught up in that all the time that I don't make time for Hudson to enjoy all the fun things a little boy should be able to enjoy.  I know I did SO much more when I only had Boston.
Boy how times have changed.
Because of that mommy guilt, I committed myself to trying to make sure I TAKE the time to have little adventures for that little guy.
One of those days this month we were lucky enough to have Boston come since he didn't have school that day. They both HANDS DOWN wanted to hit up Monkey Joes.  I'm okay with that because that place WEARS THEM OUT.
The weather has been SO nice lately so pit stops at the park were necessary.
We hit Sky High and Hudson didn't know WHAT to do without his brother.
It took him quite some time before he got on and jumped.
Afterwards we met up with our daddy at Town and Country for lunch at Ruggles on the Green where Hudson just RAN and RAN outside while we ate (I love that atmosphere).
We also made it to the zoo.
Sadly, we didn't make Boo Zoo this year but I'm sure because of that, we got there on a much LESS busy day.
This kid was on CLOUD nine when we decided to ride the train around Hermann Park afterwards.
And on the days we didn't get to do something fun, this kid made his own fun at home.
"Mommy, come wook at me!  I go nigh, nigh."
Taking time out for my little guy has helped shed some of that mommy guilt but then it just made me nervous for whenever number 3 comes one day....

halloween fun

 I love Halloween.
Like LOVE Halloween.
That love is being passed onto my boys.
They absolutely LOVE anything spooky.
All month long, when we had the time, we tried to find something FUN to do in relation to Halloween.
From Halloween crafts
To Halloween books---our collection is growing & for some reason that makes me SUPER excited.
Making yummy Halloween treats
And listening to spooky music (the boy's favorite are the ones with the footsteps creeping and doors slamming instrumentals---am I damaging my children?) and watching some NEW Halloween movies (our favs are Room on the Broom and The Nightmare Before Christmas--did you know that was a Halloween movie? I didn't.)

We also of course, carved and painted pumpkins this year.  The boys were SO excited to paint their pumpkins into whatever they wanted!
Sadly, this momma wasn't thinking when she gave them WASHABLE paint and it rained the next day and all the paint disappeared.
Some boys weren't too happy about that.
And then of course the boys picked out what they wanted daddy to carve the pumpkin into---because we ALL know that "pumpkin carving" isn't really done by the kids.  Kent was getting anxious and was trying to speed the process up so he pulled out his drill.  It actually did help it all go faster.
Depending on the year, the boys may or may NOT want to touch the pumpkin guts.
Last year the both did and this year JUST Boston.  Surprisingly Hudson had ZERO interest.
Our finished product (sorry for the blurry picture...I got spooked outside while taking it and ran in after one shot so this is what I got).

When Papa Comes to Town

BYU came to Houston to play UofH.
Being that my dad is SERIOUSLY BYU's #1 fan, he came over  (just for 24 hours) for the occasion.
Boston was MORE than thrilled when he found out this meant that Papa got to come to his football game.
It was a little chilly that morning AND wet which left Hudson EXTRA muddy.  I swear that kid is all about the mud and if he can't find mud, he'll make his own.
Apparently my parents bring good luck because Boston scored another touchdown in the game that day...maybe Papa's LOUD cheering helped motivate him.  My dad is the STEM of our competitiveness.
Boston was lucky to tag along to his FIRST college football game after his game was all finished.
We left Hudson with a sitter--we all KNOW that would have only been fun for the first 10 minutes--and quickly headed to the game (hence Boston STILL having green hair).
Boston was TOTALLY into the game.  He was asking questions, cheering, studying the plays, memorizing players numbers....he was zoned.
And you can't blame the kid for wanting some snacks too.
 It was a FANTASTIC game.
SO close up until literally the last minute (when Boston informed me he had to go to the bathroom SOOOO bad and couldn't hold it).  The entire BYU fan base has never been so energetic.  My dad put them all the shame.  When I say this man is a CRAZY fan, he is just that--C.R.A.Z.Y.  We were tackled to the ground when he was cheering and he was running up and down the isles giving people high fives.  He is CRAZY.  I've accepted it and know what to expect when we go to BYU games with him (if you only knew the stories).  It's awesome and it no longer embarrasses me.
The next day, we said our goodbyes and Papa hit the road back home.
It was a GREAT Saturday and we'll take one like that any time!

Annual Pumpkin Patch Visit

We made our trip to our little pumpkin patch again this year.
I love picking out our pumpkins.
I love pumpkin patch pictures.
Makes it really feel like fall.
Hudson couldn't avoid trying to pick up every pumpkin...big or small.
Then Boston came around and could actually pick up those big pumpkins.
I was a tad nervous we were going to have to pay for a few busted pumpkins.
The boys were VERY excited about these football dummies.
Boston DID point out that they should be LSU...you know you're in Texas when....
Oh Boston and all your football intensity.
This kid was being such a stink about wanting his picture taken.  I got very few good ones of this boy.
And because of him ZERO family pictures.
Daddy need to learn how to focus the camera a little better....
I swear this boy will drop and give you 10 any time or any where. This was followed by an impromptu "toss the pumpkin" between Kent and Boston.
Again, this is why I just KNEW we would be paying for busted pumpkins.
Boys.
I just love these boys....even amid all their silliness.
I LOVE looking back on previous years to see how much they've changed in a year.
Happy Fall Y'all!
