Baton Rouge Trips

A few weeks back we took TWO QUICK, QUICK trips to Louisiana just two weeks apart (like literally there for 24 hrs or less).  Our niece Kamryn was getting baptized so we left on a Friday and drove back late Saturday night to be back for the primary program on Sunday.  The quick trip was worth it though.  Kent was able to perform her confirmation and I was asked to give a talk on the Holy Ghost.  We are SO happy and proud of Kamyrn and her decision to get baptized.
After the big baptism, the cousins got to play a bit and Jeff made his famous waffles for everyone.
Kent with the beautiful Kamryn on her special day.
After we had cleaned everything up, the cousins put on a little performance for us.  They sang a few primary songs and then reenacted the story of Jesus' birth.  It was precious.  So glad we were able to be there for this day.
2 weeks later, we hit the road again for the Alabama (#1) vs LSU (#7) game.  Boston had his last football game that day at 9, so once that was over we got right on the road to Baton Rouge JUST IN TIME to drop the boy's off at Grandma's, grab a bite to eat with my parents, Uncle Mike and Aunt Jill at TJ Ribs then off the Death Valley we went.
My favorite thing about football season in Baton Rouge are all the crazies out there....
The game was a GREAT game.  We thought we had won it with just a minute and a half left in the game....then LSU screwed up and Bama scored in a matter of seconds.  SO ANGRY about it because we totally deserved the win AND this was the first game I've EVER been to that they lost!  Whatever.  I guess it happens.  Stupid Tigers....dang Nick Saban (I can NOT stand him--bama coach).
And just like that it was time for us to head back to Houston Sunday afternoon.  Thankfully we arrived in Houston safely after passing up SEVEN wrecks all within a few minutes of each other.  We were definitely watched over that day.
The boys were troopers but were exhausted.
We decided that we wouldn't be making any trips back to Louisiana until Christmas...

Football Mom

 Texas football is NO joke.
The season started the first of August.  Boston had 4 practices a week that each ran 2 hours long.
Once games started, it went down to 2 practices a week (still 2 hours) plus a game each week (sometimes 2).  Boston was the youngest and smallest on the team.
Our season started great....4-0!  GO EAGLES!  That is until October hit.  We lost 4 games in a row! OUCH!  But we finished strong winning our last TWO games, one of which was the BEST team in the league!  So the Eagles finished 6-4....and Boston will remind you that AND every other team's record in the league!
Like I said, football is NO joke in Texas.  From parents holding coaches up with guns, to parents spitting on refs, to parents getting into with parents (notice a trend....parents have a problem) and some SERIOUSLY INTENSE coaches yelling and SCREAMING rude things to these boys (thankfully our coach wasn't one of them)...its INTENSE!
We even have our own cheerleaders who are decked out from head to toe with a full on halftime routine and music being blared throughout the game!  I honestly couldn't get Toddlers and Tiaras out my head every time I heard the cheerleading coach tell the girls, "SMILE! SMILE! SMILE!" over and over!
Boston enjoyed teaching us his plays and actings as our coach
And also taught Hudson to get down when he said "DOWN. SET. HUT!"  It's the cutest thing ever!
 We sat through rainy games
Got to watch Boston be team captain
And finished off the season by silly stringing our coaches after the BIGGEST win of the season!
 Boston made some good buddies
But most of all made his mommy (and daddy) proud of all his hard work.
Next year Boston wants SO bad to be the quarterback (this year he was a lineman).  We've informed him how much work he will have to do as a QB but he says he's up for the challenge.
I love my little football player.

Halloween Night

Oh I love Halloween.
Tuesday night we finally made time to carve our pumpkins.  My tough Hudson boy surprisingly wanted NOTHING to do with pumpkin carving and stayed as far back as possible.  His brother tried extremely hard to get him to come take a look but he completely refused!
Boston didn't mind pulling out all the pumpkin guts.  He chose the two faces he wanted us to carve
He wanted to Kent to freehand a scary face.  He did this in NO TIME.
On the other hand, he picked a fairly complicated pattern for me to pull off.  I got a little impatient with that cheap knife those packets give you.
Remember how I mentioned previously Boston's love for all things spooky this year?  Well, after watching Monster House over and OVER, he was determined to have a beware sign out front just like the spooky house in the movie.  Kent, being the good dad he is, got creative and pulled off this little sign for our front yard.
Halloween night, we went to our friend's the Buchanan's for some trick or treating fun!  Kyler is Boston's best friend and we jump at any chance to see them.  Since Kyler and Boston don't go to the same schools, the boys rarely get to see each other as much as they used to.  So a little trick or treating with them was a definite treat!
Boston was my little Tarzan this year and Hudson was his gorilla!
I was very surprised Hudson left his head piece on.  When we put it on him the first time, he just wanted it off but I guess he got used to it.  Boston's hair CRACKED me up.  The first time he put it on, I was literally crying I was laughing so hard!  He wanted long hair like Tarzan SO bad. Surprisingly, finding a brown long haired wig is a hard thing to find.  I finally found a "Moses" wig (that came with beard and all...did you know they made Moses hair??) and we made it work for Tarzan!
We did some trick or treating and got LOTS of candy.  Hudson enjoyed getting his treats from each door with his daddy while Boston ran ahead with his buddies
Afterwards, the boys were sweaty from running from house and house and just wanted to sit, relax and dive into their candy!  I don't blame them. His momma hijacked all the butterfingers this year and ate them ALL the next day.  Whoops.
 It was a SUCCESSFUL Halloween!
Now...let the rest of the holidays begin!!
